here is a link where you'll find a lot of short stories and poems

here is a poem of youth to friendship and freedom

When i tell you:

my only friend is the wind,

don't ask me

if you're my friend,

ask yourself

if you're the wind

People and Country

Qumram pottery

Closing down for the Shabbath

Stalls near the gate

Bread after the Passover

Amjed in Bethelem

I didn't know how to use the camera, so I must apologize for all the errors, I'm just publishing it because I promised Amjed I would be uploading it, so that he could see it once I got back to Spain. My friend and I had the best time with him and all the patrons going into his shop, he didn't speak much English and my Arabic is very limited I can only say;

thank you: shukran
you're welcome: afwan
and the traditional greetings:

Hello: al salaam a' Laykum/marhaba
Hello: (reply) WA alaykum al salaam

Amjed I hope you have someone around to translate this for you; thank you so much for your warm welcome, for letting me film and take pictures of the place and of you, thank you again for the nice conversation and for the wonderful coffee, thanks!.

At the butcher's in Bethelem

Poultry, lamb and beef ready to be taken away from the refrigerated display window
More candy and sweets, it all looked delicious, and tasted great too!!!
At the Baker's

We asked a baker to let us in and take some pictures of the offer there, here you can see a lot of baking trays with different types of baklava, a traditional dessert in Middle East countries and India. It's made from filo pastry and nuts, lovely as a petit four with some tea or coffee.

Almonds in the street market

Food in the Holy Land

Easter in the Holy Land is a religous experience, but we all are made of flesh and bones and need to eat. I will present here onwards a few pictures that have to do with markets, stalls, butcher's and baker's in that Middle East region, this was taken in Nazareth's street market. I hope you enjoy this series.

CANDY AND BAKING

Mariela, from culinary arts 1st D has told me about this site for virtual baking, I think it's real fun, and it will be good vocabulary practise for bakers and patissiéres.

I also found this "corner shop" for sweets and candy. What would you include in your bunny hunt basket?

BERRY TRIFLE

BERRY TRIFLE

I love trifle and all my friends do too. This is the one I made for last Saturday's family gathering.

This particular one was made from sponge cake, liqueur, custard, jelly, whipped cream, slivered almonds, and fruit in general, specially bananas.

Trifle is a delicious alternative to ice-cream, fruit salad or macedoine after a long many course meal. It's colourful, stunning and flavoury dessert. Children love it and it's somewhat in the so called collective memory of the English speaking community.

I used to love Rowntree's jelly and all the different products around this brand and also Bird's custard, I found them to be a part of my experience as a learner of English language, above you have a couple of links on these two brands.

Although Mr. W.L. Berry never had any of this with me, since this is fun and he was fun I dedicate this dessert to him

Entertaining pals

Could you explain in four steps how kalimotxo is made?

Ingredients for a kalimotxo with your pal

red wine, coke, ice cubes and lemon wheels

Instructions:

First fill a mixing glass with ice,
then pour in the red wine and coke,

next stir all the ingredients with the barspoon or your pal's clean index finger,

finally serve in highball glasses and garnish with lemon wheels
or.....

you can forget about the glasses, lick your pal's finger and carry on sipping... the drink together from the mixing glass.
